Opening New Horizons

This summer, I interned at RxSense as a Business Analyst in Boston. Since I’ve never excelled in science, I was nervous to intern within the pharmaceutical tech industry, but I was excited to push myself in this unique role. Ultimately, not only did I gain insights about the industry, but I also learned a great deal about the depths of a business.

RxSense would bring individuals from different fields together to talk to us interns, such as through meaningful workshops. Learning about the ins and outs of various departments was inspiring, but the greatest learning experience was our final project. We were put into random groups with other interns and had to create an extension to a product that they already have at their company that would benefit them. Not only did we have to be creative, we also had to develop a profitable product in a complex field. This forced me to draw on my strengths of problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.

To complete this project, interns had to network with people across the entire company. We reached out to different departments, varying from marketing, to finance, to relationship managers. Then, we developed a full business plan, including the finances. Our group practiced teamwork and communication to successfully complete the plan, but we still faced challenges. The biggest challenge was having our ideas get distributed to different people, and continuing to change our thoughts and plans, but we continued to persevere. After working on the plan for over a month, we were able to complete and pitch it to the executives, who were impressed with our outcome and use of teamwork. It was motivating to succeed alongside a group of vastly different individuals with varying ideas.
